Initiative:  Empowering Persons with Disabilities in Myanmar Labor Market

On 7th December 2024, Simple Solutions for Change (SSFC) hosted the Employment Opportunities Connecting Fair for Persons with Disabilities, a key initiative to promote inclusive employment in Myanmar. The event opened with remarks from Ms. Heidi Smith, Public Affairs Officer of the U.S. Embassy Yangon, emphasizing the importance of workplace inclusivity. Ma Shwe Mar, Program Director of SSFC, presented the project’s impact and future vision, highlighting efforts to connect PWD job seekers with meaningful career opportunities.

The fair featured an insightful panel discussion with industry experts from KBZ Bank, MAB Bank, ATOM, and Step In Step Up, who shared best practices for fostering inclusive workplaces. Participants then explored job opportunities at booths hosted by leading companies, engaging directly with employers to discuss career possibilities. The event successfully created a platform for PWD job seekers to connect with organizations committed to diversity and inclusion.

We are in the process of developing a guidebook for creating accessible workplaces for PWDs by extending the survey and roundtable discussion with advocates, businesses, and PWD empowerment organizations.
